About This Website
The Australian Human Resources Institute’s Fair Work Resource Centre has been designed to provide legal information about the new industrial relations laws and to assist business to implement the Act through easy access to appropriate HR tools, formats and advice. The website has been developed in partnership with Holding Redlich lawyers and is supported by the federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) as part of its Fair Work Education and Information Program.
Australia is about to experience its second major overhaul of the industrial relations landscape in four years as the Rudd Government’s Fair Work Act replaces the contentious Work Choices legislation introduced in 2006. The first phase of the new legislation was introduced on 1 July 2009 and the Act will be fully implemented by 1 January 2010.
Human resource practitioners and people managers will be required to advise the organisations they serve about the best ways to comply with a number of new workplace practices and ways of doing business so that they behave in accordance with the new laws. In addition, the Fair Work Act will provide a fresh set of challenges and opportunities for organisations to work with their people to maximise business objectives. By proactively advising their organisations on how best to do business within the new framework, HR professionals will assist businesses to remain competitive while at the same time protecting them from the risks of non-compliance.
